ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The AMCA has a new certified-ratings program for acoustical duct silencers.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Air Movement and Control Association International has introduced a new certified-ratings program for acoustical duct silencers.

The program is based on the American Society for Testing and Materials' International Publication E-477-99, Standard Test Method for Measuring Acoustical and Airflow Performance of Duct Liner Materials and Prefabricated Silencers.

Certified ratings will include dynamic insertion loss, airflow generated noise, and pressure drop. Testing will be performed in accordance with AMCA International's Publication 1011, Certified Ratings Program Acoustical Duct Silencers, at quality-certification company Intertek's Cortland, N.Y., facilities.

The purpose of the program is to give buyers and users assurance that the published ratings of the prefabricated duct silencers are reliable and accurate. The program also assures manufacturers that competitive ratings are based on standard test methods, procedures and are subject to check by an impartial authority.
