“Our unique cooperative model is so successful because of the relationships these local stores have with their customers,” said Gary Daniels, president of Johnstone Supply. “This new system keeps those Johnstone customers who prefer to order online in touch with their local store and staff, and keeps the e-commerce business and profits for the store as well.”
Each of the 248 Johnstone stores will register its own customers for online ordering. Customers who log onto the web site will be directed to the closest store or the store’s own web site. Visitors can perform customized product searches of more than 17,000 products. Online orders are tracked and fulfilled by local stores. Company officials say response from participating stores so far has been very positive. Future plans for the site include electronic warranty processing, more efficient parts stocking and partnerships with other Internet portals.
