MINNEAPOLIS - Christian Popa, a design engineer for Lewisville, Texas-based Advent Air Conditioning Inc., was able to program an online version of Honeywell's new VisionPro 8000 thermostat in eight seconds, making him the winner of the manufacturer's "Program to Win" contest.
HVAC contractors had the opportunity to take part in the contest by logging on to www.hotfreshcool.com. As the champion, Advent Air Conditioning will receive a one-year supply - 365 units of VisionPro thermostats - to sell and install.
"I've been working with thermostats for years, but this is my first time programming one in just seconds," said Popa. "This contest proves that programmable thermostats don't have to be difficult or complicated to operate."
Honeywell introduced the thermostat in May 2004. The device guides homeowners in the programming process through an on-screen menu and flashing touch screen.
