The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA) has won the Award of Excellence in the 2001 Associations Advance America Awards program, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives.

SMACNA received the award for Safety Excellence Plus, a new customized safety software program specifically for the sheet metal industry. The software allows a firm to create an entire company safety program or establish a jobsite program with the click of a mouse. Document and record maintenance is reduced to simple clerical tasks and key safety personnel spend less time on paperwork and more time preventing accidents. Updates are available through a website and less time is spent keeping up to date with regulations, according to SMACNA. In the event of an emergency, information will be quickly accessible.

In addition, the software contains training materials supervisors may use for field training or developing classroom materials. It also offers recordkeeping databases to allow tracking of such critical data as training, medical tests, equipment maintenance and injury data. Reports, such as the OSHA injury and illness log, can be generated effortlessly.

The "Safety Excellence Plus" package is available to non-SMACNA members for $650. Visit and select "publications" or phone the SMACNA Publications Department at 703-803-2989.
