Combined U.S. factory shipments of 687,838 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for July jumped 17% compared to shipments from the same month last year, according to the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute.

Heat pump shipments of 128,774 were up 9%, compared to July 2001. Combined unitary shipments were up 6% through July.

U.S. factory shipments of unitary air-conditioners and heat pumps during July 2002 totaled 687,838, up 17% compared to July 2001. The year-to-date total was 4,603,077, up 6% from January through July 2001.

Heat pump shipments totaled 128,774, up 9% compared to July 2001. The year-to-date total was 971,291, up 4% from January through July 2001. July 2002 factory stocks were down 32,164 units from June 2002, down 80,914 units from July 2001.

July 2002 distributor inventories were down 69,958 units from June 2002, and down 240,028 units from July 2001. July 2002 distributor shipments were up 14% from July 2001, and year-to-date shipments were up 7%.
