Residential ac shipments drop in Canada for third quarter

MISSISSAUGA, Ont., Canada - During the third quarter 2000, residential ac shipments dropped by 50%, and chiller bookings decreased 17% from third-quarter 1999. All other sectors increased during this period: residential furnaces by 5%, unit heaters by 3%, and commercial ac by 2%. For the third quarter year-to-date, chiller bookings showed an increased of 2%, residential furnaces and unit heater shipments increased by 2%, and residential ac shipments by less than 1%. Chiller bookings decreased by 7% over third-quarter 1999.

Commercial ac shipments went from 12,086 in the third quarter of 1999 to 12,329 in the third quarter 2000. Year-to-date shipments increased 3%, from 31,205 units in the third quarter of 1999 to 32,103 in the third quarter of 2000.

Residential ac shipments decreased 50% from 52,838 in the third quarter of 1999 to 26,441 in the third quarter of 2000. Year-to-date shipments increased less than 1%, from 201,120 in the third quarter of 1999 to 201,499 in the third quarter of 2000.

Residential furnace shipments increased 5% from 75,832 in the third quarter of 1999 to 79,872 in the third quarter of 2000. Year-to-date shipments increased by 2%, from 158,995 in the third quarter of 1999 to 162,438 in the third quarter of 2000.
