ABB will supply Carrier with its variable-frequency HVAC drives.

NEW BERLIN, Wis. -ABB Inc. has agreed to provide its new line of variable-frequency HVAC drives, the ACH550 series, as part of a supply agreement with Carrier Corp.

Carrier will use the drives as a component in its Weather Series rooftop and Aero air-handling product lines.

"The drives met our strict performance criteria and our quality assurance requirements, which were key to making this agreement happen," said Bruce Burdon, director of product management and marketing for Carrier's North American commercial division. "The drives already are being utilized in our commercial products, and the customers response has been extremely positive."

According to ABB, software developed for the drives will ask commission technicians a short list of qualifying questions. Based on the answers, the drive self-sets the parameters and proceeds to the start mode. The drives offer a control keypad modeled after those used on cell phones, as well as maintenance, diagnostics and programming assistance.
