Refrigerant Services Inc. said its RS-24 refrigerant, has recently received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Refrigerant Services Inc., Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, said its RS-24 refrigerant, "a non-ozone-depleting drop-in replacement for R-12, developed by the company, has recently received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under the Significant New Alternatives Program.

According to Refrigerant Services president Jim Thomas, "This product is unique in the industry as it is compatible with all existing oils and can replace R-12 and all the current R-12 interim HCFC-based replaced products.

"RS-24 is a nonflammable HFC blend with a small amount of a specially formulated hydrocarbon component that provides enhanced oil return capabilities in all applications." Refrigerant Services said it has also developed RS-22, a non-ozone-depleting drop-in replacement for R-22. RS-44 is now sold in Europe and Canada and the company said it expects to introduce the product to the U.S. early next year.
