Thermadyne expands operations to China
ST. LOUIS - Thermadyne Holdings Corp. is expanding its global presence with the completion of two China-based moves.
The manufacturer has created a new wholly owned company in China called Ningbo Thermadyne Cutting and Welding Equipment Manufacturing Co. Ltd. A joint venture has also been created in China called Ningbo Fulida Gas Equipment Co. Ltd.
"(It) will support our sustaining engineering, product development, sourcing sales and marketing efforts," said Paul D. Melnuk, Thermadyne CEO. "We have leased approximately 17,500 square feet of manufacturing and office space. This will serve as a base for our global sourcing and engineering teams located in China."
Melnuk added that a sales office and demonstration facility would be located in Shanghai.
Privately owned Longxing, part of the Thermadyne partnership, has approximately a 35 percent share of the domestic Chinese market for gas equipment and manufactures a broad line of products similar to that of Thermadyne.
"The purpose of the FGE (Fulida Gas Equipment) joint venture is to manufacture and sell second-tier gas equipment and other products in China and globally under Thermadyne's brand names," said Melnuk. "FGE is also located in Ningbo, China, where it will utilize a 96,000-square-foot facility."
