Boca Raton Resort & Club, site of SMACNA's 58th annual convention and product show coming in October.
BOCA RATON, Fla.- "Keys to Success" is the theme for this year's 58th annual convention here of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA).

The convention and a "tabletop" format product show will be held October 21-24 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club, an historic, 75-year-old, 356-acre beachside resort noted for its tropical flowers, exotic birds and romantic Mediterranean architecture, as well as for its prime golf and tennis facilities.

Noted humorist-writer Dave Barry is the featured speaker at the convention's opening session, offering his wacky viewpoint on issues and topics that touch our everyday lives. He is the author of hundreds of newspaper columns and several books. In fact, the CBS t.v. series "Dave's World" was based on two of his books.

The featured speaker at the Monday group luncheon, which includes presentation of the annual contractor safety awards, will be business news reporter Lou Dobbs, who will offer an insider look at the new global economy, the outlook for business, and national politics.

Specialty forums throughout the convention will give contractors a chance to pursue special interests, such as residential hvac service, metal roofing and architectural sheet metal, custom fabricating, industrial contracting, and more.

Business and personal development sessions include "Taking your safety program into the 21st century", use of project web sites, an introduction to lean construction, and a roundtable discussion on forthcoming SMACNA duct construction standards, metal and flexible.

A three hour long product show is slated for Tuesday morning of the convention, giving attendees a chance to ask questions and discuss in-depth their concerns with manufacturers of the products they use day to day.

There is a golf and tennis tournament, social and spouse activities, and entertainment also scheduled, as well as professional networking opportunities. For more information on the convention call SMACNA at 703-803-2980; fax 703-803-3732; or visit SMACNA on the web at www.smacna.org. Hotel reservations must be made through SMACNA.
