LANCASTER, Ohio - The central Ohio chapter of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America recently noted the 80th anniversary of member company R.N. Smith Sheet Metal Shop Inc.
The company began in 1922 as W.H. Smith Sheet Metal Shop at the same Madison Avenue address it has today. Services offered by founder William H. Smith included roofing, sprouting, steam baths, wood and coal furnaces and sheet metal work.
In 1946, Smith's son Raymond took over, changing the name to R.N. Smith Sheet Metal Shop. It was during Raymond's tenure that the company added heating and air-conditioning sales and service.
Current President Patrick R. Smith started working with his father in 1969. The company now has 30 employees and more than 8,000 customers in the Lancaster area. In addition to residential service, it also works on new construction and light commercial installations.
