The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute (HRAI) of Canada’s Annual Statistics Forecast for the year 2002 indicates that hvac shipments will show a small increase over year 2001. Residential air conditioning shipments increase by 6%, commercial air conditioning by 4% and residential furnace shipments by 1%.

The 2000 actual, projected 2001 and forecasted 2002 figures are as follows:

Commercial air conditioning: Actual shipments in 2000 were 47,493. The projected year-end figure for 2001 shows a 15% drop to 40,200 but the forecast for 2002 increases by 4% to 41,900.

Residential air conditioning: Compared to the actual 2000 shipments of 239,280, the projected 2001 figure decreases by 23% to 184,400. The 2002 forecast increases over 2001 by 6% to 195,500.

Residential furnaces: Actual 2000 shipments were 277,984. At year-end 2001, shipments are projected to decrease by 13% to 242,700. However, the forecast for 2002 increases over 2001 by only 1%, to 245,000
