York International furnaces recalled

Some York furnaces could overheat and cause cracks in heat exchangers.

YORK, Pa. - Serveral furnaces made by York International Corp.'s Unitary Products Group have been voluntarily recalled.

The furnaces can overheat, causing cracks in heat exchangers, burn-though, and in extreme cases, furnace wrapper burn-through, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is working with York on the recalls.

The safety commission says the overheating can lead to burning of the drywall and other combustibles adjacent to the furnace, posing a fire and smoke hazard to consumers.

York received 27 reports of fires, some resulting in extensive property damage that could be related to these hazards. There have been no injuries reported, company officials said.

For more information on the recall, call (888) 665-4640 or visit www.dgatprogram.com.
