SMACNA recognizes chapter accomplishments

Association presents legislative awards during its annual convention in Maui, Hawaii.

MAUI, Hawaii - The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association recognized two chapter members during its 61st annual convention, Oct. 24-28 in Maui, Hawaii.

The Distinguished Legislative Service Award was presented to Spence O'Brien, retired from Cal-Air in Whittier, Calif.

"His contributions to the industry on the local and national levels have been significant and lasting," said SMACNA President Mark Watson.

O'Brien has served on the SMACNA-Los Angeles board of directors for 19 years. He was elected vice president in 1986 and served a two-year term as president in 1987. O'Brien has also been a member of the association's Congressional Insiders Club since 1987.

The association also honored Judith C. Nagle, executive director of SMACNA of Southern Nevada. Nagle received the Chapter Executive Legislative Advocate of the Year award.

During the past year, Nagle has participated in SMACNA's political action committee. She also completed a term as chairwoman of its Chapter Executives' Institute Board as well as membership on the Multi-Service Chapter Application and Selection Committee.

"Judy has done so much in a short time to develop and maintain relationships with members of Congress," said Watson. "In addition to her key role on SMACNA legislative issues, she has been politically active. She has played a key role in state politics and is also active on state legislative matters. Communicating, lobbying and educating Congress in an energetic, un-relentless manner about the issues of importance to SMACNA firms, she has not only helped the chapter but also the industry."
