SACRAMENTO, Calif.- California Association of Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (California SMACNA) presented the 2002 Tom Guilfoy Memorial Architectural Sheet Metal Award to San Diego Sheet Metal Works for its project, "Concourse C" in the Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon. The company received a 30" x 40" framed architectural photo of the project.

Karl LePiane, president, accepted the award. "As you described the work involved in the project, I thought it was ours, but then you said it took 20,000 manhours to complete, and I can tell you we didn't bid 20,000 manhours," stated LePiane. "This was a hard project but a good one. Thank you!"

Also, the 2002 Ed Banks Memorial Award for Contractor of the Year was presented to Jordan Ehrenkranz at CAL SMACNA's 36th annual convention held at the Hyatt Regency Kauai in Kauai, Hawaii.

Ehrenkranz, president of Ideal Heating & Air Conditioning said, "It's really a thrill and an honor to be considered." Ideal Heating & Air Conditioning is located in Santa Fe Springs and is a member of the SMACNA Los Angeles chapter.

Ehrenkranz is a past president of SMACNA Los Angeles, and has served on many committees locally including the Joint Apprentice Training Committee, Labor Committee, Joint Industry Council, and as a trustee on the Los Angeles 401(k) Plan Trust Fund.

Ehrenkranz was elected to SMACNA's national board of directors in October 2001 and serves as liaison to the CAL SMACNA Board of Directors. He served on SMACNA's Duct Manufacturing Council and currently serves as a -management panelist for the National Grievance Committee and on the National Joint Adjustment Board.

Ed Banks was president of Meadows Sheet Metal (now Meadows Mechanical) in El Segundo. The company was a founding member of CAL SMACNA and he served in 1966 as its second president.

The Ed Banks' Memorial Award will be presented each year to the California SMACNA member who, in the opinion of the committee, "best epitomizes the characteristics of Ed Banks who was, above all, a truly gentle man."
