EPA approves Honeywell refrigerant

Genetron R-245FA approved as replacement for ozone-depleting refrigerants.

MORRISON TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Honeywell's Genetron R-245FA has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency as a replacement for ozone-depleting refrigerants used in air conditioning and refrigeration.

The approval means that R-245FA can be used in a broad range of new air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, as well as to retrofit existing equipment currently using chlorofluorocarbon and hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants. According to Honeywell, the product has been successfully used in various applications outside the United States.

"We are committed to providing equipment manufacturers and service companies viable alternatives as the phase out of ozone-depleting substances continues worldwide," said Jeremy Steinfink, Honeywell's global fluorocarbons business director. "This approval again demonstrates our position as a global leader in environmentally friendly HFC technology and the development and production of high-performance refrigerants."
