The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers has given scholarships to 33 college students.

In total, ASHRAE is providing $164,000 worth of financial assistance in scholarship amounts of $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 for the 2016-17 academic year. Over the last 28 years, the society has awarded more than $1.78 million to more than 360 undergraduate students.

“ASHRAE scholarships have a positive impact on the lives of students, often allowing them to focus more on their studies and work fewer hours at part-time jobs,” said Chuck Curlin, chairman of ASHRAE’s scholarship trustees. “ASHRAE scholarships help defray some of the costs of a college education, which has gotten much more expensive in past years. The scholarships we provide not only help with the financial needs of students, but also create a direct connection between the recipients and ASHRAE.”

This year, five students were awarded $10,000 scholarships; 15 students were awarded $5,000 scholarships; and 13 students were awarded $3,000 scholarships. For a full list of scholarship recipients, visit www.ashrae.org/scholarships
