The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association’s educational foundation has awarded $83,500 in scholarships to 40 students who are pursuing careers in the plumbing or HVAC and refrigeration industries. 

Twenty-two students were awarded a total of $38,500 in scholarships funded by the foundation, the South Jersey Mechanical Contractors Association, Anne Williams, the McGlame-Wordell Scholarship Committee, the PHCC Auxiliary of Massachusetts and PHCC’s past national officers.

Additionally, 18 students were awarded a total of $45,000 in scholarships funded by A.O. Smith, Bradford White Water Heaters, Delta Faucet Co., Ridgid, and State Water Heaters. The foundation will announce these winners separately.

Tyler McCubbins of Bean Station, Tennessee, was awarded $5,000 with the 2016 Charles F. Hiley Memorial Scholarship. He is studying mechanical engineering at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Winners of $2,500 scholarships funded by the PHCC Educational Foundation include:

  • Jacob Cribbett of Champaign, Illinois, is studying business management at Mount Mercy University.
  • Joseph DiBenedetto of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is studying mechanical engineering at State University of New York Maritime.
  • Mitchell Goetten of Jerseyville, Illinois, is studying mechanical engineering at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
  • Catalin Harabagiu of Garrison, New York, is studying engineering at Purdue University.
  • Austin Smith of Fremont, Michigan, is studying HVAC and refrigeration technology at Ferris State University.
  • Damien Vaka of San Francisco is studying plumbing at the PHCC Apprenticeship School in Sacramento, California.

            Winners of $1,000 scholarships funded by the PHCC Educational Foundation include:

  • Miguel Ascencio of San Ysidro, California, is working for PHCC member Bill Howe Plumbing and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • Skylar Brasher of Paragould, Arkansas, is studying business management at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
  • Jason Carroll of San Diego is working for PHCC member J. Geyer Plumbing and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • Jonathan David Coronado of San Diego is working for PHCC member Sun West Plumbing and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • Peter James Crampton Jr. of Kinnelon, New Jersey, is working for PHCC member PHD Mechanical and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the Passaic County Technical Institute.
  • Lance Gajitos of San Diego is working for PHCC member Bill Howe Plumbing and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • Victor Alejandro Gonzalez-Parra of Chula Vista, California, is working for PHCC member Bill Howe Plumbing and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • John C. Hartman of Lemon Grove, California, is working for PHCC member the Brinks Group Inc. and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • Lillian McCambell of Knoxville, Tennessee, is studying engineering at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
  • Daniel Montes of San Diego is working for PHCC member J. Geyer Plumbing and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • John D. Moore of San Diego is working for PHCC member J. Geyer Plumbing and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.
  • Hector Oritz of San Diego is working for PHCC member Perry Plumbing Heating & Air and is enrolled as a plumbing apprentice at the PHCC Academy of San Diego.

Other scholarships awarded by the foundation and funded by PHCC members and organizations include:

  • John Anthony Sipple Jr. of Patriot, Ohio, who was awarded a $2,500 Fran Williams Memorial Scholarship funded by Anne Williams and the McGlame-Wordell Scholarship Committee.
  • Anthony Dragun of Midland, Texas, who was awarded a $1,500 scholarship funded by the PHCC of Texas Auxiliary. Dragun is studying chemical engineering at the University of Texas.
  • Keenan Brekke of Oakland, California, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship funded by PHCC’s past national officers. Brekke is studying construction management at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
