HVAC market and plumbing distributor Ferguson Enterprises has joined a manufacturer-supported mercury-recycling program.

Ferguson is now a member of Thermostat Recycling Corp., the effort supported by HVAC sales equipment manufacturers to divert used mercury from landfills. Since 1998, the organization estimates that it has recovered the mercury contained in more than 1.9 thermostats.

“Doing the right thing doesn’t have to be difficult. We are excited to be formally joining the effort to properly dispose of old mercury thermostats,” said Ferguson HVAC division Vice President Alex Hutcherson, Vice President of the HVAC Region.  “Thermostat Recycling Corporation has made it easy for us and now we can make it easy for a larger group of our customers,” he said.

Ferguson’s HVAC sales locations, including its Conklin & Co. Inc., Air Cold Supply, Ferguson Heating & Cooling, Western Air Supply and Redlon & Johnson brands, will act as collection sites.
