ASHRAE, BOMA to work toward common goals

May 1, 2008

Members of ASHRAE and BOMA met Jan. 20 to sign an agreement stating the two organizations would work together on meeting building performance goals. On hand for the signing were Richard Purtell (front row, left), BOMA chairman-elect, and Kent Peterson, ASHRAE president. Also on hand were Ron Burton (back row, left), vice president of codes, standards and regulatory affairs for BOMA International; Henry Chamberlain, BOMA president and CEO; Jeff Littleton, ASHRAE executive vice president; and Bill Harrison, ASHRAE president-elect.
ASHRAE and the Building Owners and Managers Association International have agreed to work together to achieve goals that will benefit both organizations.

BOMA and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers signed an agreement Jan. 20, which says the associations will share technical interests to foster the development of superior building performance.

Representatives of both organizations report that they will work together to achieve several goals. Some include identifying opportunities where the organizations can share operation services and where they can collaborate on product development. Each organization also plans on giving presentations at each other’s conferences.

Where mutually beneficial, ASHRAE and BOMA will promote educational programs to members and jointly identify and create new products and services.

BOMA and ASHRAE officials also say they are committed to supporting each organization in standard-development areas.

“We are pleased to collaborate with ASHRAE and work toward our shared goal of promoting superior building performance,” said BOMA International Chairman and CEO Brenna S. Walraven. “ASHRAE and BOMA are on the forefront of developing standards that significantly impact building owners and managers, and we look forward to working more closely with them on these matters.”

“BOMA and ASHRAE share many of the same objectives and we are excited to strengthen our relationship,” added ASHRAE President Kent Peterson. “We are all working toward optimal performance of both new and existing buildings and this partnership will be beneficial for both ASHRAE and BOMA members.”
