I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but the recent theft of a furnace from a Habitat for Humanity home under construction in Windsor, Ontario, had me shaking my head.

The Windsor Star reported July 8 that the new furnace had been taken from a house more than 100 volunteers have been building for the last two months. But the group will now have to use the furnace that was slated for another Habitat house to ensure this one is ready for the family that's moving in this fall.

How common are these types of thefts? Is it the high price of scrap metals, the suppering economy or just lowlifes responsible for the problem?
