Kathabar Dehumidification Systems offers Twin-Cel, a liquid desiccant building-energy reduction system that uses energy previously lost to the environment. Twin-Cel transfers both temperature and moisture between the airstreams and allows for greater energy savings than the recovery of sensible heat only, said company officials. These systems reduce the utilities required to condition outside air for a building. By pre-conditioning the ventilation air entering a building with the available energy in the exhaust air leaving the building, these systems reduce heating/cooling and humidifying/dehumidifying energy usage with the added potential of lowering installed equipment costs. Outside air and exhaust air are handled in separate units connected only with piping, assuring that no microbiological cross-contamination can occur. Twin-Cel systems also improve indoor air quality by scrubbing airborne bacteria, viruses, and mold from the ventilation air.
