ACCA, HARDI laud ruling in N.M. lawsuit
Officials
with HARDI and the ACCA are celebrating a decision that upheld federal
preemption of HVAC efficiency standards in a case that pitted manufacturers’
desires for nationwide consistency against local control.

ABC celebrates new Indiana law
Indiana is the 23rd state to enact a
right-to-work law, which bans union membership or the payment of dues as a
condition of employment, and the first one in a decade.

Builders' Show moves to 3 days
The
International Builders’ Show is shortening the event by one day, starting next
year. Formerly a four-day trade show, the expo will
run Jan. 22-24, 2013, in Las Vegas.

Court upholds HVAC preemption rules
The Jan. 25 ruling was a
victory for the Air-Conditioning, Heating
and Refrigeration Institute and other industry groups, which claimed federal
law governing the manufacture of heating and cooling equipment overrode ability
of Albuquerque, N.M., to set its own performance standards.

Roofing show renames pavilion
The former Renewable Energy Pavilion has been
renamed the Sustainability Pavilion and will feature environmentally friendly
products such solar, photovoltaics, vegetative, day lighting and geothermal
technologies.

Group criticizes Obama speech
The Associated Builders and Contractors’ national chairman
was not impressed with President Barack Obama’s Jan. 24 State of the Union
address. Eric Regelin, president of Granix LLC in Ellicott
City, Md., said the speech offered little more than already
failed ideas.

HARDI sues to stop regulation
The Heating, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration
Distributors International has partnered with Cause of Action in filing a motion with
the U.S. Court of Appeals to stop the standards from being implemented.
