It’s a cruel, cruel summer

Thank God for air conditioning. That has to be what most of the country is thinking this summer, especially parts of the Midwest and the East coast. In fact, some sources are saying that New York City may hit record temperatures in July. This month, the city usually sees temperatures around 81°F, but New Yorkers have been experiencing 90-degree weather for consecutive days.

It’s not just the East coast that’s feeling the heat. Most of the country is experiencing a warm up. According to the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration, June 2010 was the hottest month ever recorded. Other countries are even baking. One news source I found said that the summer temperatures in Russia are out of control. The country is experiencing its highest temperatures in 130 years.

All of this makes me think two things. First, HVAC contractors have to be busy. Hopefully, the scorching temperatures have been an upside for what has been a very down economy. If you’d like to let us know how your business is doing, let us know in our new Snips poll that is located on the Snips homepage. This month’s poll is about how busy contractors have been so far this summer.

The current weather situation also makes me think there has to be something to this global warming thing. I know that it can be a contentious topic that gets raised as a political wedge issue, but you can’t deny data. The U.S. and parts of the world are experiencing higher than normal temperatures. So with that in mind, what are you doing as a contractor to not only cool off your customers, but provide sustainable solutions? This cruel summer has a lot more to offer than just heat and sunburns. Now is the time to take advantage of not only keeping your customers comfortable, but providing them with green services and solutions. Let us know what you are doing. We’d love to hear about it.
